Emi lokan or emolokun
By Clement Odia
IN the frenzy of Emi lokan
You staked your claim to the throne
And the nation chorused it.
Rightly or wrongly
Shoulder high, they carried you to Aso Rock with great fanfare.
Emi lokan! Emi lokan!! Emi lokan!!!
It is now your turn to give succour to a bleeding nation smouldering in grave squalor
It is no longer Emi lokan
It is now Emolokun
We are now a feast for the gods
We die daily in market places
Groans, sighs and agonies animate our days
Is food now a luxury on the table of the common man?
Are our lives ever now cheaper than food ?
This is the season of endless carnage.
Note: ‘Emolokun’ is a Benin word which refers to a meal of pounded yam offered to Olokun deity.
