Abak Book Club to honour reading culture promoter Udeme Nana @60

By Editor
IF you think that April and books have something in common, you are right. It is in April that the World Book and Copyrights Day is commemorated yearly on the 23rd. Interestingly, it is on the same 23rd in the same month that both the nativity and death anniversary of William Shakespeare, the greatest writer in English language, are also marked the world over. April has featured prominently in literature specifically. April’s genius, Shakespeare, wrote 154 sonnets, alongside plays and other forms of writing. There are also T. S. Eliot’s ‘The Waste Land’ and William Wordsworth’s ‘Daffodils’ which feature significantly also in April. By the way, the birthstone for April is the diamond, which is also a symbol of clarity and purity in literature. It is therefore justifiable that Americans celebrate April as their National Poetry Month.
That Akwa Ibom’s best known reading promoter and progenitor of book clubs Dr. Udeme Nana was born also in April is further proof that there is something that April and books share in common. Wait for it! The Patron of Abak Book Club, Rev. Fr. Thomas Ebong, Ph.D, is April-born too: April 21. Saturday, April 12 is therefore dedicated to cheers and poetry in honour of Dr. Nana at 60.
Highlight of the event will be a review, by the famous poet and professor of general stylistics and literary criticism, Joe Ushie, of Dr. Nana’s Musings from Yesteryears. The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ubong Essien Umoh is expected as special guest.
Are you a book enthusiast? Do you relish good poetry? You are certainly not missing this session. Kindly look up the attached flyer and keep a date with the Abak Book Club.
