POETS in Nigeria Initiative (PIN) has announced the Cross Country Poetry Celebration (CCPC) 2024, slated for Saturday, October 26, 2024 across 33 locations in Nigeria. Starting time is 3:00pm. The theme for this year’s CCPC is ‘The Power and Pleasure of Poetry’, which emphasizes the profound impact of poetry on human experience.

Fundamentally, the event will showcase poets and their works via reading, performance, and thought-provoking panel discussions, designed to promote the power and pleasure of poetry in our lives and society.

A stateement signed for the Executive Secretary, PIN Initiative, Blessing-Chinatu Orji says, “We are honoured to have Prof. Niyi Osundare, a globally renowned poet and scholar, as our keynote speaker for the 2024 edition. His groundbreaking contributions to African literature and advocacy for socially relevant poetry have inspired generations. Joining him as the Guest Poet will be the widely celebrated Dike Chukwumerije, whose works continue to ignite a passion for poetry in contemporary Nigeria and beyond.

CCPC has been a driving force in creating platforms for poets to express their art and engage with diverse audiences. This year, we look forward to bringing together poets, academics, students, and poetry enthusiasts to explore the limitless dimensions of poetry in a dynamic and engaging way.

Moderator of CCPC 2024 Basira Rabiu Idris said that the enthusiastic preparations by hosts of the different locations nationwide is a demonstration of the power and pleasure derivable from poetry and its promotion.

Orji further said, “Poets in Nigeria Initiative remains committed to promoting the art of poetry and empowering voices across the nation, using this annual celebration and other initiatives to deepen connections within our literary community.”
