A new radio station, Oxygen FM 96.9, has officially commenced operations in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, with a strong focus on educational broadcasting, youth development and responsible journalism. Speaking at the official commissioning and launch of the station located at The Knowledge Hub at 121/123 Obafemi Awolowo Way, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, last Friday, May 8, 2026, the Proprietor and Chairman of Oxygen FM 96.9, Mr. Gbadega Adedapo, described the station as “a movement dedicated to knowledge, enlightenment, and societal transformation.”

Adedapo said the establishment of the station was driven by a passion for education and the belief that access to credible and meaningful information is essential for societal growth. According to him, Oxygen FM 96.9 was conceived as “a life-giving platform” that would promote knowledge, innovation and inspiration across communities through educational and developmental programming.

“Today is not merely the launch of a radio station. It is the birth of a vision, the fulfilment of a dream, and the ignition of a movement,” he said.

The media entrepreneur and Chairman of Ibadan-based Accessible Publishers Ltd noted that while printed publications have long served as important tools for preserving knowledge, radio remained one of the fastest and most effective ways of reaching people in homes, schools, marketplaces and remote communities.

He explained that the station would operate as “a living classroom, an information hub, and a voice of hope” for educators, students, professionals and other members of the public. Adedapo said Oxygen FM would focus on educational programmes, literacy campaigns, career guidance, civic engagement discussions, youth-focused initiatives, business conversations, cultural promotion, health awareness and entertainment content designed to inspire and inform listeners.

He added that the station’s core philosophy was rooted in educational broadcasting and development communication, with the mission of creating content that adds value to lives. The chairman stressed that the station would uphold the principles of fairness, objectivity, accuracy and ethical journalism in line with the regulations of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

He also referenced Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which mandates the media to hold governments accountable and uphold national objectives.

Calling on educators and stakeholders to partner with the station, Adedapo said Oxygen FM would provide a platform for teachers, lecturers and education professionals to share knowledge, mentor young people and contribute to educational development. He equally encouraged students and youths to engage with the station through its interactive programmes, interviews, documentaries, quizzes and intellectual discussions.

Adedapo expressed appreciation to guests, partners, staff and supporters who contributed to the establishment of the station, while assuring listeners that Oxygen FM would remain committed to professionalism and quality programming towards national development.

He subsequently declared the station officially open amids guests and well-wishers present.
