iREP docu-film fiesta in Lagos, poetry reading in Port Harcourt mark a month of culture feast

ON Sunday, March 19 and March 26, 2022 in Lagos and Port Harcourt respectively, screenwriter, director and film scholar, Dr. Samantha Iwowo will feature in the iREP/Orange Exchange Programme as a guest lecturer while actor and theatre scholar, Dr. Sam Dede, will entertain a group of literary enthusiasts at Nigerian Literary Society to share his experiences in the creative world of acting and theatre. Iwowo, researcher and Senior Lecturer at Bournemouth University, United Kingdom, will feature in the Orange Academy’s flagship course, Integrated Brand Experience.
A statement from Mr. Femi Odugbemi of iREP Programme Directorate said, ”Designed in partnership with iREP International Documentary Film Festival, the academy supports young African creatives who wish to explore the power of documentary-storytelling, as driver of positive social change. Each year, the iREP/Orange Exchange Programme features international guest-speakers who share their (experiential) knowledge of documentary filmmaking, with brand storytellers of Orange Academy. Thus, our tradition continues on 19th of March 2022, with a programme of events, featuring Samantha Iwowo (Ph.D), who is a multiple award-winning screenwriter, director. Her works include Oloibiri (2016), and screenwriting on Tinsel (2008- present), and evocative paper on neo-Nollywood: “The Problematic Mise en Scène of Neo-Nollywood (2018).”
iREP International Documentary Film Festival will open on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Terra Kulture Theatre Arena, Victoria Island, Lagos with ‘Festival Cocktail and Honours Night’. The Consulate-General of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Lagos, Michel Deelen, will be special guest of honour.
Dede will engage in conversation in Nigerian Literary Society (NLS) for its March Poetry Reading. A veteran actor, director, writer, poet, politician, AND lecturer at the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Dede was a former Director General of CANIRIV, a yearly entertainment and tourism festive programme organized by the Rivers State Government by the previous administration now abandoned by the current government.
Venue is Alliance Francaise, 20 Herbert Macaulay Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to the Curator of Nigeria Literary Society (NLS), Mr. David Chukwueke, ”Sam Dede is regarded as one of the most influential actors in Nigeria. He has appeared in more than 350 films spanning over 20 years. NLS deems it necessary to have Dede in audience so he can share with the young generation his roles and experiences in the movie and literary world. At NLS, we don’t only read, analyse, revise or review authors’ works, we also listen to those we have read and watched their works, too.
”Mr. Raphael Edookue, a writer, poet and an executive member of the Association of Nigeria Authors (ANA), Rivers State chapter, will attend. Edwina Aeme, a poet and a literary enthusiast, will moderate the event. She is member of Port Harcourt Literary Society (PHLS) Book Centre.”
