Awele Ilusanmi Foundation awards 1st scholarships to two university students

THE Awele Ilusanmi Foundation has awarded its first scholarships to two Nigerian university students, marking the commencement of its educational support programme aimed at widening access to higher education. The beneficiaries are Celina Chinwemmeri Ikechukwu, a writer and 400-level Optometry student in the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Benin, Edo State, and Mr. Oyelade Adeyemi Testimony, a 200-level student of Information and Communication Engineering in the Faculty of Computer and Information Engineering at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Under the programme, the foundation will support Ikechukwu through the remaining three years of her Doctor of Optometry programme, while Testimony will receive support for the remaining four years of his Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) programme.
According to a statement signed by the foundation’s Chairperson, Dr. Awele Ilusanmi, the scholarship programme commenced on October 3, 2026, with the payment of the beneficiaries’ first school fees. The foundation paid ₦100,000 for Ikechukwu and ₦150,000 for Testimony.
The two beneficiaries, whom the foundation’s chairperson met through the Authors’ Hub WhatsApp group, will also benefit from the foundation’s allowances for foodstuffs and provisions, pocket money, and monthly data support. The initiative is part of the foundation’s commitment to broadening educational opportunities and supporting young people in pursuing their academic aspirations.
The foundation said it believes that access to education can open doors to new opportunities, adding that investing in students is an investment in their future and in the development of society.
