Poem: I Wish I Could Inspire You
By Majekodunmi Oseriemen Ebhohon
I wish I could inspire you.
I wish I could point to a house
and say:
I built that.
Or pull a key from my pocket
and tell you
some doors do open.
I have only a drawer
of application letters,
a suitcase
with a broken zip,
and a pair of shoes
that know the road
to the labour office.
Could those inspire you?
The grey hairs on my chin
keep turning up,
and I am waiting
for the car to turn into the drive.
