THE 1986 graduating set of Federal Government Girls’ College Akure (FEGGICOLLA) on Saturday, April 18 held its 40th anniversary reunion at the Jara Beach Resort in Lekki, Lagos under the theme ‘Then. Now. Always.’ The milestone event provided a forum for the alumnae to reconnect while establishing a new academic legacy for current students of the institution.

A central highlight of the gathering was the announcement of their commitment to a scholarship initiative targeting deserving pupils. The set has in the last three years paid full year’s tuition for students in Senior Secondary School 1 (SS1) who demonstrated academic excellence in their Junior West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results.

The awards specifically recognise top performers in core subjects, including English, Mathematics, Basic Science and Yoruba. The reunion and its associated CSR activities according to Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, is focused on a programme that balances social celebration with tangible support for their alma mater’s current academic standards.

Attendees, many wearing commemorative sashes with the “In Unity We Stand” slogan, participated in various activities including a ceremonial cake cutting, recognition of “Hidden Leaders” and a a host of others

The group noted that the event provided an opportunity to discuss the future of the association and its plans for the school. Beyond the immediate scholarships, the alumnae explored further strategies to mentor younger generations, reinforcing the “Unity School” ethos of national integration and academic rigour.
