Unchained Vibes Africa unveils ‘Freedom Vibes Series’
A new campaigner and promoter of artistic and cultural freedom of exression, Unchained Vibes Africa, will unveil its ‘Freedom Vibes’ Series on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Freedom Park, Lagos Island, Lagos. Time is 4-8pm. Members of the artistic community and civil society organizations in Nigeria, Africa and around the world are expected to attend the unveiling of scheduled. Freedom Vibes Series is a hybrid (physical and virtual) monthly show featuring live performances, artistic showcases and conversations, highlighting artists’ freedom of expression. From Saturday, October 30, 2021, participants will review recent reports of restrictions targeting artistic freedom, discuss policy reforms, and design advocacy campaigns.
According to the Founder/Executive Producer, Unchained Vibes Africa (UVA), Ayodele Ganiu, “The event will feature veteran actor, educator and activist, Hilda Dokubo, Nigerian-German musician and activist, Ade Bantu, rapper and On-Air Personality (OAP), Saifullah Ibrahim (Dr. Pure) as speakers. joining the event virtually are the Chairperson of the Pan-African Human Rights Defenders Network, African Defenders, ace Nollywood actor and president of Association of Voiceover Artists (AVOA), Segun Arinze, President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, Director of PEN America’s Artists at Risk Connection, Julie Trebault, and other distinguished speakers. The conversations will be moderated by the seasoned journalist and executive programme director of Culture Advocates Caucus (CAC) Jahman Anikulapo, live performances and spotlights will be headlined by Nigerian hip-hop star Eedris AbdulKareem and the world famous Nigeria’s female talking drum star Ara.”
‘Freedom Vibes Series’ is an integral part of Defending Democracy Vibes programme funded by National Endowment for Democracy (USA) and supported by African Defenders Network, PEN America’s Artists at Risk Connection, Freedom Park Lagos, World Movement for Democracy, Lakreem Entertainment, Culture Advocates Caucus, Centre for Creative Arts Education (CREATE), and Ara Entertainment Productions.
The statement noted that there are two ways to participate in the event: in-person attendance and online participation. In the in-person/physical attendance format, residents in Lagos on Saturday can attend the event physically but registration is required for free tickets to gain entry to Freedom Park, venue of the event.
