Theatrethon: Brave Guinness World Records attempters defy odds for longest theatre performance

We’re not just breaking a record; we’re igniting a movement

IN an extraordinary display of determination and artistic passion, four courageous attempters are on the cusp of shattering the Guinness World Records for the longest marathon theatre performance. Graciano Enwerem (Sir Grrraciano), Tamara Dogubo, TheGift Chikere and Doubra Agwana have been performing non-stop for over 120 hours, with their sights set on attaining 170 hours by October 19, 2024.

Dubbed ‘The Eclipse Event’ or ‘Theatrethon’, this monumental undertaking seeks to harness the power of theatre to spark social change and advocacy. The team’s artvocacy-centred plays like Chikere’s Silence: Death in Rehearsal, Dogubo’s Colour Me Mad, Enwerem’s Reap-off Rip-off are aimed at tackling pressing social issues like sickle cell awareness, the impact of political rivalry, gender-based violence in marriages, and mental health awareness.

Despite facing significant challenges, including last-minute withdrawals of promised support and financial strain, the team remains resolute. “Whatever I set my mind to do, I don’t go back against it,” Sir Graciano emphasized. “We’re not just breaking a record; we’re igniting a movement. We are just broken people trying to break a record to be heard.”

Theatrethon has garnered significant attention through social media campaigns, behind-the-scenes content, and street publicities. The team invites global supporters to join their mission, advocating for critical social causes and promoting awareness.

Key highlights of the attempt include 120+ hours of non-stop performance, four attempters: Graciano Enwerem (Sir Grrraciano), Tamara Dogubo, TheGift Chikere, and Doubra Agwana, artvocacy-centred plays addressing social issues, Guinness World Records attempt for longest theatre performance and financial support is urgently needed to sustain the project.
