Remembering Eze Professor Chukwuemeka Ike with tribute in Awka

* ANA Delta in pursuit of ‘The Writer and the Quest for a New Society’

* Dis-Loyal Judas to be staged at UNILAG, as PEFTI hosts content workshop

NIGERIAN Book Foundation (NBF) will celebrate the life and times of His Majesty, Eze Professor Chukwuemeka Ike, who died on January 9, 2020. He was born on April 28, 1931 in Ndikelionwu, Anambra State. The remembrance event is in collaboration with Anambra State Ministry of Education and Anambra State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), and has as theme ‘Remembering his Majesty, Eze Professor Chukwuemeka Ike’. It will be held at Prof. Kenneth Dike Library, Awka, Anambra state, on April 30, 2024 at 10:00am.

Amongst notable guests billed to attend include the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, special guest of honour and Labour Party candidate, Mr. Peter Obi and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi) while the chairman and keynote speaker will be Eze Ani-Ukwu, His Majesty, Igwe Oranu Chidume.

The high points of the celebratory event will be the unveiling of an Igbo language book, Nka na Akaoru Ndigbo, which will be reviewed by the journalist, Mr. Izunna Okafor. There will also be a literary competition by senior secondary school students, with Professors Akachi Ezeigbo and Ngozi Ezenwa-Ohaeto, as jury.

The hosts and NBF board of trustees include the Co-president, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Igwe Obosi, Eze Iweka III (trustee), Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh (trustee), Mr. Sule Momodu (trustee), Dr. Wilson Moneme (trustee), Dr. Nkem Osuigwe (trustee) and the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu.

Meanwhile, Television Content Owners Association (TCOA) will host its maiden content workshop and seminar on April 18, 2024 with the aim of ‘Upscalling Content Production to Global Standards’ at PEFTI Film Institute on Joy Avenue, Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos. All talent in television and film spectrum are invited to participate in the workshop. Executive Head, Content and West Africa Channels, Multi-Choice Nigeria Ltd, Dr. Busola Tejumola, Group Managing Director, Royal Roots Nigeria, Dr. Greg Odutola and Group Executive Director, Media Investment at OMG, Mr. Yinka Adebayo are guest speakers while Nigerian International Film and Summit, Ijeoma Onah, TV and film producer, Chinenye Nworah and film director, Dimeji Ajibola will be panelist at the workshop and seminar.

And Crown Troupe of Africa and the Depart of Creative Arts Theatre, University of Lagos, will on Friday, April 19, 2024 present the stage performance Dis-Loyal Judas, written and directed by Segun Adefila, in what is described as ‘An Evening of Easter Opera’.

Also, Delta State chapter of Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), under the chairmanship of Dr. Peter Omoko, has slated its April reading event for Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Senior Staff Club, Site 1, Delta State University, Abraka. A statement from the PRO, Mr. Degreat Ejeba said the theme for the April reading event is ‘‘The Writer and the Quest for a New Society’, and will have writers like Dr. Stephen Kekeghe, Dr. Chukwuma Anyanwu and Dr. Martins Tugbokorowei speaking on the theme. Performance of prose, poetry and drama works will also be part of the event.
