PAPERWORTH Books released its Covid-19 anthology of stories and poems entitled Covik One Nine, edited by Ibiso Graham-Douglas on April 16, 2024. Covik One Nine is a collection of captivating narratives encapsulating the despair, resilience and redemption woven into the fabric of the Covid-tinged Nigerian and diasporic experience. There will be a private reading and launch on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Etim Inyang Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The book contains poems from laureate Dr. Obari Gomba and short stories from acclaimed novelists Michael Afenfia, Chimeka Garricks and Olukorede S. Yishau while also introducing new voices like Dolapo Marinho, Shehu Zock-Sock and Michael W. Ndiomu. The book takes you on a journey through the intricacies of life in the Covid era with a rich tapestry of short stories and poems. Eight esteemed and emerging storytellers spin narratives that traverse the landscapes of Nigeria and its diaspora, offering profound insights into the essence of our shared humanity.

While commenting on the book, the editor Graham-Douglas said, “I wanted to capture our collective perceptions and experiences of the Covid era, defining it for our people and a generation—how it disrupted lives, and yet how resilience prevailed.”

“This pestilence will not be the end of us./ We shall rise if we fall to rise, fall to rise again,” a line in one of the poems says.
