Awele Ilusanmi Short Story Competition opens September 1

THE second edition of the Dr. Awele Ilusanmi Short Story Competition will open for entries on September 1, 2026, with the organisers fixing December 20 as the closing date. The winner of the competition will be announced and the prize presented on January 1, 2027.
Sponsored by The FAMBI Group and organised by Authors’ Hub, the competition is held in honour of Dr. Awele Ilusanmi for her contributions to literature, learning and intellectual development in Nigeria.
The competition offers a cash prize of N200,000 to the overall winner and is aimed at promoting creative writing while providing established and emerging writers with a platform to develop and showcase their literary talents.
The maiden edition, held between September and December 2025, was won by Celina Chinwemmeri Ikechukwu. She won with her short story ‘A Window Between Us’. Ten other contestants were also recognised with certificates of participation.
According to the organisers, writers of all ages and nationalities are eligible to enter the second edition. The Founder and Coordinator of Authors’ Hub, Sumaila Isah Umaisha, said detailed guidelines, eligibility requirements and other criteria for participation would be released in due course.
