AJIDO community in Badagry, Lagos State, will come alive from May 23 to 24, 2025, as it hosts the Feast of a Legend in honour of one of its most illustrious sons, the legendary drummer, educator, and cultural ambassador, Babatunde Olatunji. Organized by Bond Africana in collaboration with the Olatunji/Okoosi Family, the two-day celebration will pay tribute to Olatunji’s groundbreaking contributions to global music and African cultural heritage. The festival will also spotlight Badagry as a centre of cultural pride and historical significance.

Olatunji, born in Ajido-Badagry in 1927, rose to international acclaim in the 1950s and 60s, notably with his seminal album Drums of Passion, which introduced African drumming to global audiences. His influence extended across music, civil rights activism, and intercultural dialogue—earning him a revered place in world history.

The highlights of the Feast of a Legend will include ‘Traditional rites and prayer’, ‘Cultural performances’, ‘Zangbeto Masquerade Exhibition’ and ‘Tour of Heritage Sites’ that will explose visitors to the exciting cultural offerings Ajido-Badagry is capable of displaying.

In a statement signed by the Chief Operating Officer of Bond Africana, Mr. Peter Olaide-Mesewaku, the celebration is not only a homage to a legend but also a call to action for the preservation and promotion of Africa’s cultural icons. It offers an opportunity for artists, scholars, tourists, and culture lovers to connect with the legacy of a man who bridged continents with rhythm and purpose. Importantly, the 2025 edition is a build up to the 2027 centenary celebration that will be grandly celebrated.

Members of the press, partners, and the general public are cordially invited to be part of this historic occasion.
