JOS Repertory Theatre’s ‘Beautiful Camp 2’, which is being supported by Czech Aid in the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the Transition Project, will open in Abuja at the end of September under the supervision of the Czech Embassy, Abuja. With 30 participants drawn from the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, the camp comprises arts workers, lawyers, journalists, bloggers, teachers, entrepreneurs and students who had been carefully chosen from an open call and who had been meeting in online seminars since April 2025.
The project aims to foster discussions around equality and non-discrimination based on equal public and political participation in public affairs. The camp’s cardinal principle is based on mutually respectful and beneficial exchanges amongst the participants. Part of the broad aims of Beautiful Camp is to offer participants a different but positive and alternative future to dream and hope through interactions with peers and co-creating on different projects across geo-political divides and borders.
According to the Director of Jos Repertory Theatre, Dr. Patrick Jude-Oteh, “We have hinged this project based on the fact that freedoms of thought and expression are core to democratic norms and essential to human dignity as a part of the foundation for democracy, the rule of law and public participation that help the realization of the human potential.”
There will be sessions on experiences on freedom of expression and thought, conscience and religion and education all hinged on the ideals that information can be freely accessed and evaluated with ease to enable participants form their own views while embracing new viewpoints. The camp will also explore the possibility of showing how important our voices are and exposing what happens when people work together.
Part of the aims of the camp will be encouraging youths and participants to work in difficult divides, and offering hope in challenging and difficult times.
Beautiful Camp is being supported by Czech Aid, domiciled in the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Transition Program.
