UN Tourism set to visit Ekiti State for technical assessment mission

IN a significant development that promises to reshape the tourism landscape of Ekiti State, the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO Tourism) has announced plans to conduct a technical assessment mission in the state from Saturday, August 17th to Thursday, August 22nd, 2024. This impactful visit by the UN Tourism team will bring a wealth of opportunities and transformative benefits to Ekiti State, under the visionary leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

The key highlights and impact deliverables of the visit include Expert Assessment of Tourism Assets in Ekiti State, according to a statement from Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism, signed by the DIrector General, Barrister Wale Ojo-Lanre, “the UN Tourism team will provide a thorough and professional evaluation of Ekiti State’s tourism potential. This assessment will ensure that the state’s Tourism Policy and Master Plan align with international standards and best practices. Identification of Potential Sites for Designation as World Heritage Site which the assessment will help identify and recommend historical tourism heritage sites in Ekiti for potential designation as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, to enhance the state’s cultural tourism significance globally.

“Others are increased international recognition for Ekiti State’s tourism sector, as the visit will elevate the profile of Ekiti State’ on the global stage, attracting international recognition for its tourism sector and positioning the state as a prime tourism destination. Access to global funding and resources in which the mission will facilitate partnerships with UN Tourism, granting Ekiti State access to global funding and resources for sustainable tourism development. All these will enhance economic growth and tourist inflow. With the international recognition and strategic planning from this visit, Ekiti State, under Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s leadership, is expected to see a significant increase in tourist inflow, leading to substantial economic benefits for Ekiti State.”
