Tradition meets academia as Ovie of Ozọrọ Kingdom recieves VC, SDU, Sunny Awhefeada, others

IN a demonstration of mutual respect, partnership, and commitment to sustainable community development, the Vice-Chancellor of Southern Delta University, Ozoro, Delta State, Professor Sunny Awhefeada, alongside members of the university’s management team, paid a royal courtesy visit to the Ovie of Ozoro Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Ovietobore Anthony Ogbogbo, Ibuka 1 and the Council of Chiefs at the royal palace in Ozoro on Monday, June 1, 2026.
The royal father and his chiefs warmly received the delegation, showcasing the rich cultural heritage, hospitality, and traditions of the Ozoro Kingdom. The visit provided a platform for fruitful discussions on strengthening the longstanding relationship between the university and its host community, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to supporting one another for mutual growth and development.
Professor Awhefeada emphasized the importance of maintaining cordial relations between the university and traditional institutions, describing traditional rulers as custodians of culture, peace, and social harmony whose support remains essential for academic excellence and institutional progress. He reiterated the university’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the kingdom through initiatives that would positively impact students, staff, and the wider community.
Responding, His Royal Majesty Ovietobore Anthony Ogbogbo, expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the university’s management for its proactive engagement with traditional institutions. He assured the vice chancellor and his entourage of the kingdom’s continued support, stressing that education remains a vital instrument for societal transformation and national development.
The visit concluded with the exchange of goodwill messages and commemorative photographs, symbolizing the enduring bond and shared aspirations between Southern Delta University and the Ozoro traditional institution.
