NBRP, partners hold 4th Lagos Book Walk March 5

THE Network of Book Clubs and Reading Culture Promoters in Nigeria (NBRP) has announced the 4th Edition of its annual Lagos Book Walk, a regular reading culture enhancing activity. The event is scheduled to hold on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Festac Town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The Lagos Book Walk is a community-based literacy advocacy initiative designed to promote reading culture, literacy development, and inclusive community engagement among children, families, schools, and residents.
Established in March 2020, NBRP is a non-profit organisation committed to addressing literacy gaps through structured reading initiatives and collaboration among book clubs and reading promoters nationwide.
The Annual Book Walk, which began in March 2023, has grown steadily over the years, attracting participation from students, parents, educators, and literacy advocates across Lagos and beyond.
The 2026 edition will feature a 1.5km community book walk within Festac Town
Children’s reading sessions, access to books and literacy materials and community engagement activities.
Speaking ahead of the event, anchor for the 2026 edition of the walk series, Josephine Oghenekevbe Ogufere, said, “The Lagos Book Walk is more than a symbolic walk. It is a call to action for families, schools, policymakers, and communities to prioritize reading as a foundation for national development. When children read, communities grow.”
On his part, the National President of NBRP, Professor Oyinkan Chukuka Tasie said, “Come March 5, 2026, I will take a moment off work to walk for the reading culture, particularly in Nigeria.”
The Executive Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Prince Lanre Sanusi is billed to serve as chief host of the 2026 edition.
The organisers are also calling on corporate organisations, development partners, educational institutions, and community leaders to collaborate and support the initiative through funding, book donations, logistics support, and volunteer engagement to help strengthen public awareness and mobilise broader support for literacy-focused initiatives across Nigeria.
The event is open to schools, parents, children, volunteers, and literacy advocates. The walk is expected to commence from Festac First Gate and terminate at the Amuwo Odofin Local.Government Headquarters, 41 Road, Festac Town, Lagos.
Past editions of the walk series took place in Ikeja, Ikoyi/Lagos Island and Ikorodu.
Partners for the walk include the National Library of Nigeria, Nigerian Book Fair Trust, Committee for Relevant Art, Nigerian Publisher’s Association, Association of Nigerian Authors, Lagos State Library Board, Nigerian Library Association and the Booksellers Association of Nigeria.
