First Nigerian Poetry Conference holds August in Ibadan

POETRY Enclave (POEN) the first Nigerian Poetry Conference (NIPOCON 2026) will hold in Ibadan on August 7 & 8, 2026 with an eclectic mix of poetic influences.It’s promises to be poetry and a fascinating parade of poets and lovers of poetry, with Dr. David Adewole serving as chief host. With the theme ‘Poetry for Activisim and Change,’ NIPOCON 2026 will be the talk-of-the-town poetry conference whose after-taste linger long in the memory of those who attend.

To deliver the keynote address based on the theme above will be Nigerian academic in the Department of English at the University of Ibadan, Dr. Akin Tella. His teaching and research span core areas of language studies, including discourse analysis, pragmatics, stylistics, varieties of English, and basic English grammar. His scholarly training and contributions reflect a strong grounding in linguistic and stylistic traditions. Dr.Tella’s research contributions focus largely on discourse-oriented and stylistic-driven analyses of literary texts, political communication, media texts and cultural expressions in Nigeria.

According to the President of Poetry Enclave (POEN), Ibadan, and Convener of NIPOCON, Mr. Anthony, the conference will hold at Elders’ Place, off CAC Bus- stop, along Idi-Ape-Basorun Road, Ibadan. It will begin with a welcome cocktail/festival of life on Friday August 7, and end with a closing dinner on Saturday August 8, 2026.

Registration for the conference is mandatory and covers an Ankara shirt and bag, conference book and certificate, biro, jotter, welcome cocktail, lunch and closing dinner.
