Exploring the triad of theatre, media, law in honour of Elo Ibagere

THE academic community has been invited to contribute papers to a forthcoming publication titled Theatre, Media and The Law: A Tripodal Merger in Elo Ibagere. The call for papers is a tribute to a distinguished academic, theatre practitioner, and barrister Professor Elo Ibagere who has made significant contributions to the fields of theatre, media and law.
The provost of the Oleh campus of Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria, Professor Ibagere is celebrated for his remarkable achievements as a scholar, playwright, and advocate for the voiceless. His works span various disciplines, making him a towering figure in the integration of these three fields. The organizers have outlined a broad range of topics for contributors to explore, such as ‘African Traditional Communication/Indigenous Knowledge Systems,’ ‘Communication and Society,’ ‘Communication and Man,’ ‘Theatre and Society,’ ‘The Media and the Law,’ ‘Nigerian Copyright/Intellectual Property Protection,’ ‘Merger Between Theatre, Media, and the Law,’ ‘Nigerian Film/Cultural/Communication Policies,’ ‘The Playwright in an Unstable Society,’ ‘Nollywood and the Challenges of New Media,’ ‘Theorizing the Nigerian Stage/Film,’ ‘Plagiarism and Its Implications for Academic Growth,’ ‘The Place of the Actor in a Weak Economy,’ ‘Theatre Arts Departments as Nollywood’s Source of Human Supplies,’ ‘Theatre as the Voice of the Voiceless,’ ‘Piracy and the Growth of the Nigerian Film Industry,’ ‘Fate and the Man; Theatre and Copyright Issues,’ ‘Radicalism and Scholarship Travails,’ ‘Theatre and the Media’ and ‘Nigerian Media and Their Impediments to Social Responsibility Delivery.’
Contributions are expected to reflect rigorous scholarship and adhere to the APA 7th edition style guidelines. Contributions should be in MS Word document format, in double line spacing, and written in Times New Roman font, size 12. Papers should not exceed 5,000 words or 15 pages, inclusive of authors details, references, tables and figures. All papers must be submitted by April 15, 2025.
Professor Ibagere’s legacy as a barrister and member of the Nigerian Bar Association, coupled with his contributions to academic growth and societal advancement underpins the thematic focus of this initiative. His published works on television, communication, and African traditions remain pivotal references in their respective fields.
