Dayo Alabi @70:Tribute to a visionary leader

AS the Nigeria International Book Fair Trust joins the literary community in celebrating the 70th birthday of Mr. Dayo Alabi, we honour a life dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, education, and publishing. The Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of The Book Company, Mr. Alabi’s legacy is a testament to his passion for books, learning, and the development of the Nigerian publishing industry.
I had the privilege of interacting with Mr. Alabi during the 20th International Book Fair, held at the Harbour Point Event Centre. As the Editorial Head of the Media Team, I had the opportunity to interview him, and I was struck by his calm demeanor, wisdom, and insightful responses to my questions. His approach to issues, developmental plans, and innovative ideas for the book industry left an indelible mark on me. It was clear that Mr. Alabi is a visionary leader, dedicated to the growth and advancement of the publishing industry.
Throughout his career, Mr. Alabi has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, charisma, competency, character, and value. His commitment to mentoring and giving back to the community has inspired a generation of publishers, authors, and educators. His selflessness and generosity have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and the literary community.
As we celebrate Mr. Alabi’s 70th birthday, we acknowledge his tireless efforts at promoting literacy, education, and publishing in Nigeria. The presentation of his book Encounters and Experiences is a fitting tribute to his life’s work, offering a glimpse into his remarkable journey and the lessons he has learnt along the way.
The 70th birthday and presentation event of Mr. Alabi’s book is a testament to his enduring impact on the Nigerian publishing industry. The event was represented by Who’s Who in the industry, including Dr. Kolade Mosuro of The Booksellers Ltd, Mr. Adedapo Gbadega of Accessible Publishers Ltd, Chief Lanre Adesuyi of Havillah Group, Dr. John Asein of Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and Vice Chancellor of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Olufemi Peters. The Chairman of NIBFT Planning Committee, Mr. Olugbemi Malomo was also in attendees, among other distinguished personalities, well-wishers and guests.
