AMUWO-ODOFIN, Ojo area of Lagos will host the 4th Lagos Book Walk, a community-based literacy advocacy initiative aimed at promoting reading culture among children, families and schools on Thursday, March 5, 2026. The event, organised by the Network of Book Clubs and Reading Culture Promoters in Nigeria (NBRP), is designed to make reading more visible, engaging and accessible within local communities. It is expected to bring together pupils, students, parents, teachers, authors, librarians, community leaders and literacy advocates.
The book walk will commence at Festac First Gate and end at Rockview Hotel, 23 Road, Festac Town, where closing activities and exhibitions will take place. The programme is scheduled to begin at 7:00am.
According to the organisers, the Lagos Book Walk forms part of sustained efforts to encourage children and young people to embrace reading as a lifelong habit while strengthening community participation in literacy development.
They noted that the initiative goes beyond a symbolic walk, describing it as a deliberate statement on the importance of reading and collective responsibility in supporting children’s access to books and learning opportunities.
Activities planned for the event include children’s reading sessions, book sales, book gifts, games, music and other family-friendly engagements, with books provided for participants during the reading activities.
The organisers also said the event would serve as a platform to strengthen partnerships among schools, parents, community organisations, non-governmental organisations and corporate bodies committed to education and social development.
In addition, NBRP has issued a call for vendors and exhibitors to participate in the event, inviting book sellers, publishers, educational material providers, children-focused brands, toy and game vendors, stationery suppliers, food vendors, NGOs and community-based organisations.
The exhibition area will be located at Rockview Hotel, the endpoint of the book walk, offering exhibitors direct access to families, schools and educators, as well as opportunities for product sales, brand visibility and community engagement.
Members of the public, schools, families, organisations and businesses within and around Amuwo-Odofin have been encouraged to participate and support the initiative. Enquiries and expressions of interest can be directed to the organisers via +234 803 523 3329.
