Okediran brings ‘Madagali’ to the UK on London book tour
By Editor
NIGERIAN medical doctor and novelist, Dr. Wale Okediran, will visit the United Kingdom this winter for a London book tour to celebrate his latest novel, Madagali, a powerful exploration of resilience, displacement, and the human spirit in the face of conflict. Drawing on his experience as both a physician and a writer, Okediran weaves a narrative that resonates across cultures and borders.
The UK tour will feature public readings and Q&A sessions at leading literary venues in London, hold media interviews with cultural and literary journalists and signings books and opportunities for readers to engage directly with the author.
Dr. Okediran, author of more than a dozen books and recipient of multiple literary awards, was a former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and currently serves as Secretary-General of Pan-African Writers Association (PAWA). His work has been translated into multiple languages and continues to shape conversations around African literature globally.
Dr. Okediran is also a politician and cultural advocate, whose award-winning novels including Tenants of the House (adapted into a feature film) and Madagali (2022), Fellow of Nigeria Academy of Letters (FNAL), a recipient of the ANA Prize for Fiction and other literary honours. His writing blends medical insight, political awareness, and human empathy, making him one of Africa’s most compelling contemporary voices. The work in focus, Madagali, was published by Evans Nigeria in 2021 and Abibiman Publishing in the UK in 2022.
Set in the North East of contemporary Nigeria, Madgali pays a fundamental attention to the pathetic nature of Nigeria’s prolonged fight against the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents, and follows a complex love dilemma. A factional account of perhaps Nigeria’s greatest domestic challenge after the 1967 Nigerian Civil War, Madagali traces the accounts of 24-year old Bukar Salisu, a patriotic young Nigerian who joined the army to defend his motherland from terrorists.
A literary critic and theorist, Prof. Abubakar Othman, described the book as “a manual for the study of military intelligence and guerilla warfare.”
Dr. Okediran will read Madagali at Daniel Ford, 10, Balfe Street, London, N1 9EG on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 4.00pm prompt with moderation from writer, poet and public commentator, Kelvin Kellman, The African Centre, 66, Great Suffolk St, London SE1 0BL on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 6.00pm with moderation from the Head of Theatre Studies, University of East Anglia, Dr. Sola Adeyemi, Swansea, Wales (to be confirmed) on Friday, December 26, 2025.
