Felabration at Freedom Park Lagos returns with ‘Underground System 5’

THE annual celebration that brings together music, arts, culture and entertainment to honour the life and enduring legacy of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti returns with theme ‘Underground System 5’. It is scheduled to hold at Felabration @ Freedom Park Lagos from 12th – 18th October 2026. Beyond celebrating the legendary Afrobeat music icon, Felabration also creates a platform for established and emerging artists to connect with diverse audiences.
This year’s programme, consisting of seven days of music, culture and creative expression set to celebrate Fela’s enduring legacy, will feature a series of themed nights celebrating different musical traditions and contemporary expressions, including Documentary Night, Highlife Night, Ladies Night, Jazz Night, Juju/Fuji Night, Reggae Night and Afrobeat Night.
A major attraction will be the Gen Z Zone at the Freedom Park Amphitheatre. It will provide a dedicated space for younger audiences and emerging creatives. The zone will feature rave sessions, open mic, poetry, spoken word and other interactive creative experiences.
Head of Marketing & Event Manager at Freedom Park Lagos, Omotola Ibeh, who has served as the Production and Programme Manager for Felabration at Freedom Park since its inception 13 years ago, and contributed to the planning, programming, coordination and delivery of the festival through successive editions, reflected on her 13-year journey with the festiva.
According to lIbeh, “Felabration has grown and evolved over the years, but the heart of it remains the same — using music and creativity to celebrate Fela’s legacy and connect people across generations. Being part of the production and programming journey at Freedom Park for the past 13 years has been a remarkable experience. Every edition presents new challenges, new ideas and new opportunities to create something audiences can connect with.”
The 2026 edition will continue this tradition by bringing together different generations and musical genres, while providing opportunities for young creatives to participate and showcase their talents.
‘Underground System 5’ is expected to attract music lovers, culture enthusiasts, creatives, tourists and young audiences to Freedom Park throughout the festival week. Felabration @ Freedom Park Lagos remains part of the Park’s broader commitment to providing a platform where Nigeria’s history, heritage, music and contemporary creative expressions can meet.
