PAWA celebrates with children on international day 2026

ON the bright, sunny day of Wednesday, May 27 2026, the Pan African Writers Association ( PAWA) in collaboration with The Sophia Boadi Readathon International Foundation celebrated the 2026 International Childrens Day with a number of activities at the PAWA House headquarters in Accra, Ghana.
In addition to the physical audience, the well attended event was also graced by online participants across the African continent and beyond. About 250 Children drawn from 6 secondary schools in Ghana accompanied by their teachers and some parents were the main focus of the children’s day event.
Guests included the South Africa’s Acting High Commissioner to Ghana, H E Mr Thando Dalamba and the Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Col ( Rtd) Shem Amadi who was represented.
Other guests included the celebrated Ghananian Poet and retired Surgeon, Prof Lade Wosornu and his wife as well as officials of the Ghana Publishers Association, the African Publishers Network, Literary NGOs, Academicians and a distinguished array of writers and journalists.
In his brilliant and well received speech, Prof. Gabriel Eshun, a visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa, harped on the need for children to imbibe the very important character of humility. He also encouraged the children to always appreciate their culture and seek solutions towards solving some of the challenges currently facing the African continent in the areas of agriculture, technology and power supply among others.
After a tour of the exhibition stands by Guests, the children were divided into different break out sessions where they were tutored in different professions such as Dentistry, Animation, Bead making, Graphic arts, Story telling and Writing as well as the preparation of Sobolo, a popular hibiscus drink.
PAWA also used the occasion to honor Prof Lade Wosornu with the PAWA Patron of the Arts Award in recognition of his support to PAWA as well as his contribution to African literature. The highly successful event which was supported by friends and partners of PAWA, will continue today Thursday, May 28 2026 at 10am at the Accra National Children and Mobile Library, airport area.
Today’s event will be in collaboration with the Creative Arts Agency, with the support of the Prof Lade Wosornu Trust and the Ghana Library Authority.
