CANEX Prize Publishing in Africa 2025 announces longlist

THE CANEX Prize for Publishing in Africa 2025 longlist for the second edition of the award was announced on Thursday, July 24, 2025. The CANEX Prize for Publishing in Africa recognises the publisher of the best African fiction or non-fiction title. It is open to writers from all over the African continent, with submissions reviewed by a team of experienced judges to select a longlist before being narrowed down to the best works. It is a project of the African Export-Import Bank’s (Afreximbank) CANEX Book Factory and Narrative Landscape Press.

The first winner was Female Fear Factory, written by Pumla Dineo Gqola and published by Cassava Republic in 2024.

The journey to the 2025 winner announcement kicked off with the announcement of the longlist, which features The Comrade’s Wife, Barbara Boswell, published by Jacana Media, Broken, Fatima Bala, published by Masobe Books, Dear Zimi, Chiziterem Chijioke, published by Quramo Books, No Pink in the Rainbow, Angel Patricks Amegbe, published by Masobe Books, In Silence My Heart Speaks, Thobeka Yose, Karavan Press, A Blow To The Head: A History of Violence, Andries Du Toit, published by Modjaji Books, One Hundred Years of Dispossession, Lebogang Seale, published by Jacana Media, Algériennes: De Mère en Fille, Hind Soyer, published by Casbah Editions, Like Water for Sea, Olumide Popoola, published by Cassava Republic Press, Half Portraits Under Water, Dennis Mugaa, published by Masobe Books and The Black Atlantic’s Triple Burden, Adekeye Adebajo, published by Jacana Media.

The winner will be announced at the Canex Weekend in Algiers, Algeria, from September 4 – 10, 2025.
