Awhefeada lights up DELSU with 117th inaugural lecture January 15

THE Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Sunny Ijirhevwe Awhefeada, will deliver the 117th Inaugural Lecture of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka. The lecture is scheduled for Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the 750A Lecture Theatre, Site III, DELSU, Abraka, by 11:00am.
A distinguished scholar of African literature, Prof. Awhefeada is widely acclaimed for his contributions to Nigerian literary studies, cultural discourse, linguistic identity and journalistic interventions. His lecture is expected to provide fresh, thought-provoking insights into Nigerian literature and underscore the enduring relevance of the humanities in contemporary society.
Prof. Awhefeada is an alumnus of two of Nigeria’s foremost universities: the University of Ibadan and the University of Benin, where he obtained his BA, MA, and PhD degrees respectively. The lecture, titled “The Literature of Our State: An Evolutionary Engagement with Modern Nigerian Literature,” will be delivered under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba.
Prof. Awhefeada will be the fifth academic from the Department of English and Literary Studies to deliver an inaugural lecture, following Professors Simeon Obikpeko Umukoro, Godini Gabriel Darah, Mabel Osakwe, and Macaulay Mowarin.
Guests are expected to be seated by 10:30am.
